SSS denies arresting mother of stowaway boy

A 13 year old boy was found in the wheels of an Arik airplane.
The Department of State Security Service, SSS, in Benin on Monday denied arresting Evenly Ohikhena, the mother of the 13-year-old stowaway boy, Daniel Ohikhena.
A senior SSS officer, who confirmed the presence of Ms Oikhena at their office, however, denied that she was under arrest.
“We just want to document her statement since her son is in our custody in Lagos.
“She will be allowed to leave as soon as we are done with taking details from her,’’ the source said.
Daniel, who sneaked into the wheels of a Lagos-bound Arik plane at the Benin airport on Saturday, has been taken into the custody of SSS in Lagos.
Earlier, Ms. Ohikhena told newsmen in Benin that she reported a case of missing person at Evbotubu Police Station on Saturday when she realised that Daniel was neither at home nor in their Goodwill road neighbourhood.
She, however, said that she got the news of her son’s arrest from her sister-in-law in Germany and the national dailies.
“On that fateful day I left home on Friday night to my elder sister’s place that gave birth and I passed the night there.
“When I came back in the morning, my daughter told me that both of them had an argument when they were watching film,’’ Ms. Ohikhena said.
Sunday Ayodele, the Airport Manager, handed the boy over to an SSS officer attached to the airport.
