Al-Makura’s incompetence worsening Nasarawa crisis- PDP

Tanko Almakura, Nassarawa State Governor
The state has recently been embroiled in a political crisis.
The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that the state governor, Tanko Al-Makura, should blame himself for the miscarriage of peace in the state and stop pointing an accusing finger at the presidency.
The party in a press statement signed by its state chairman, Yunana Iliya, said the governor had rebuffed the PDP’s hand of fellowship to move the state forward.
“It might interest you to know that PDP as a party had on several occasions expressed its willingness to partner with the administration in a constructive manner with a view to moving the state forward, but on each occasion, such advances were rejected,” the statement read.
The statement accused the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Innocent Lagi, of leveling “a baseless and weighty allegation” at the behest of the governor against the presidency. The state attorney general had earlier released a statement accusing the PDP and the presidency of trying to derail the Al-Makura administration through the PDP-led state house of assembly.
Mr. Iliya argued that the refusal of the state government to implement the reports of previous committees was due to the negligence of the administration and a cause of the reoccurring crisis in the state.
“It is surprising that the governor has not been able to implement the reports of the two previous committees set up by his own administration to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crisis and proffer solutions to them. It is no longer news that the state has been under the suffocating grip of communal crisis, which has been allowed to fester for too long, a development occasioned by the inexplicable incompetence of the incumbent governor,” the PDP said.
The statement added that the state governor has refused to see the legislators as partners in progress but rather as enemies; which was the reason for the present disagreement.
“Instead of facing up to the glaring truth of their monumental failure, the governor and his boys have been engaging in the unhelpful venture of trading blames and accusing others for their ineptitude in tackling the problems of the state,” the party said.
