England manager Roy Hodgson has backed goalkeeper Joe Hart to rediscover his best form after coming under criticism for recent Manchester City performances.
The 26-year-old was singled out by former City manager, Roberto Mancini, after a string of poor displays, and he was at fault for Scotland’s opener in the Three Lions’ recent 3-2 win at Wembley.
More uncertainty followed in Sunday’s shock 3-2 loss to Premier League newcomer Cardiff City, but Hodgson has backed “top-class” Hart to shine again for club and country.
“We all know that goalkeepers and strikers, they’re the ones in the firing line the moment anything goes even marginally wrong,” Hodgson told reporters. “They’re the ones everyone turns to and looks at. I’m sure Joe is confident enough and big enough to understand these things.”
