The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N30 million.
Five construction workers attached to a dredging firm, Beks Kimse Nig. Ltd., have been kidnapped by gunmen along the creek of Opuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
A source at the community told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yenagoa that the kidnappers had demanded N30 million ransom to release their victims.
The source said that the firm was handling an NDDC-sponsored shore protection and reclamation work at Opuama.
Witnesses said the gunmen abducted the workers on Aug. 23.
A resident of Opuama, who simply gave his name as Ebiware, said that the gunmen stormed the dredger where the men were working on a speed boat.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Bayelsa, Alex Akhigbe, said the police had received a report on the incident.
He, however, said he was yet to get details of the incident.
