Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has said that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) was never part of the alliance that led to the emergence of the now registered All Progressive Congress (APC), saying that there was no need for anybody to resort to legal actions when indeed APGA was never part of the merger.
Governor Al-makura stated this on the occasion of the final meeting of the state executives of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which saw to the dissolution of the state CPC exco, with both officials and supporters formally joining the APC.
According to Al-makura, the brouhaha generated after the successful registration of APC by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), when leaders of APGA threatened legal action against APC for its alleged inclusion as part of the merger, was needless, as APGA was never part of the merger.
“Only the officials of APGA are not part of the merger but majority of the party’s supporters are with us in this journey to liberate our people and entrench a viable democracy,” Al-makura told listeners at the meeting.

He described the coming of the APC as a new dawn in the country’s democratic experience, stressing that the era of flagrant abuse, corruption and all similar negative tendencies that have bedevilled the growth and development of Nigeria, “will now be swept away”, and to usher in a new era of social justice, fairness, prudence and accountability.
Meanwhile, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, says he does not regret leaving the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) which brought him to power for the newly registered All Progressives Congress.
APGA chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, had last Friday announced the expulsion of the Imo Governor for involving in alleged anti-party activity.
Reacting to the expulsion while at a town hall meeting of the Imo State Congress of America 2013 national convention in Atlanta, USA, over the weekend, Okorocha said the wellbeing of Ndigbo remained paramount in all his action as the APC remained the reputable platform for the actualization of the political dreams of Ndigbo.
“APC remains the best vehicle to promote the interest of our people. PDP has marginalized the south east and has nothing to show for all its years in power,” Governor Okorocha stated.
While urging Igbos to embrace the APC as it guaranteed equity and political opportunities denied by the ruling party, the Governor said the action of a faction of APGA is of little political consequence as the party lacks the national spread to ensure Igbos make significant headway in the country’s political landscape.
He described the APC as a national party made up of progressive elements determined to ensure equitable distribution of political offices to all tribes in the country and as one of the tripod on which the country stands, the APC was set to redress the injustices to Ndigbo made by the PDP and urged all progressives south easterners to line up behind the new party and ensure it produces the next leaders of the country at all levels.

“Igbos have not produced the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House or the Chief Justice of the Federation but I am confident under APC, one or more of these positions will come to the southeast,” Okorocha said.
