Nigerian-born Arsenal starlet, Chuks Aneke has joined English Championship side, Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan.
Aneke, a midfielder and a graduate of the club’s Hale End Academy, has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by at Arsenal and spent much of the recent Asia Tour operating in the unfamiliar position of centre-back.
He has now returned to Crewe whom he spent a major part of last season with. Soon after his return, he scored as they progressed to the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. Crewe manager, Steve Davis has hailed the youngster.
“He did terrific for us last season. I think initially people didn’t see his quality, but over time he came to fruition and his fitness was much better.
“The quality, creativity and goalscoring ability he’s got was apparent to everybody. He’s the creative player that (former captain Luke) Murphy was and we could do with that type,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.
All of the indications suggest that, with Aneke’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, this loan move could lead to a permanent stay at the Alexandra Stadium.
Aneke has been capped severally by England at junior level.
