Governor Godswill Akpabio has asked the newly appointed Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State government, Udom Emmanuel, to be ready to sacrifice for the benefit of all Akwa Ibom people, irrespective of their ethnic affiliations in the state.
The governor, who was speaking in Uyo on Wednesday while administering the oath of office on the new scribe, advised him to serve the people without bias or ethnic sentiments, pointing out that every Akwa Ibom child and community deserved to be served without prejudice.
“You must sacrifice your sleep for the people of Akwa Ibom to sleep well,” the governor advised. “It is an office which must reflect the character and content of the lofty dreams of this administration that every Akwa Ibom person should expect a turn around and are respected.”
The governor reminded the new SSG that he was injected into the administration to contribute his quota to the transformation agenda of the state government, warning that, the administration was playing in injury time, which demanded extra vigilance and caution to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
He enjoined the people to accept changes as part of the process of growth towards total
transformation, adding that they must remember that change was a necessary part of life to sustain the momentum of whatever the state was doing.

He used the occasion to thank the immediate past SSG, Okon Umana, for his meritorious service to Akwa Ibom while in office, particularly going down in history “as the longest serving permanent secretary in this part of the world.”
“The government and the good people of Akwa Ibom State acknowledge his gratitude, his dedication to service throughout the period he served the state at different stations. So, we thank Mr. Umana for his services and we want to wish him well for his future endeavours”, the governor added.
