Jonathan on good terms with Amaechi, others –PDP

Governor Rotimi Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan
The Peoples Democratic Party has said President Goodluck Jonathan is in good relationship with the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and other governors.
The party stated this on Sunday in a statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Okeke.
Okeke was reacting to a statement by the Action Congress of Nigeria, where the party criticised President Jonathan’s bodyguard for blocking Amaechi from greeting him (Jonathan) during a book presentation at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
Before the Villa incident, the party had also suspended the governor from the party on account of the sacking of the executives of Obio/Akpor Local Government in Rivers State.
The governor had however defended the sacking and his refusal to direct their recall, saying only the Rivers State House of Assembly could do that.
But Okeke said on Sunday, “President Goodluck Jonathan has a good relationship with all state governors, including that of Rivers State.
“We commend him (the President) for the reconciliations so far achieved in the PDP.”
He also blasted the ACN for asking President Jonathan to probe reports that security operatives prevented Amaechi from exchanging pleasantries with him at the dinner.
In the statement, Okeke also pointedly criticised the ACN National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, whom he described as a despot for imposing his daughter, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, as a successor to his mother, the late Alhaja Abibat Mogaji, as President-General of the Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men.
In his reaction, the spokesperson for the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Tinubu’s name must not be dragged into who becomes the leader of the market women.
Mohammed, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, wondered why Tinubu’s name was being dragged into the matter.
He said anyone interested in the issue should rather contact the leadership of the association.
Mohammed also said Tinubu did not speak on the matter during the Fidau prayer for her later mother.
He said, “Why did the issue of Iyaloja become part of the ACN? Asiwaju never uttered any word concerning the issue during the Fidau prayer for her late mother.”
“If there is anyone who is interested in leading the market women, let the person show interest by contacting the leadership of the association.”
