WARRI — POLICE in Delta State, yesterday, foiled an attempt by a three-man armed robbery to hold up passengers in Aragba on Abraka Road, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the incident to Vanguard, said the bandits started operation, in the morning, in Isiokolo, while the police, acting on a tip-off, laid siege for them.
“Two of the armed robbers were arrested, while the third member fled and police are in search of him, while one AK 47 and one locally made double barrel gun were recovered from them,” he said.
He said: “The armed robbers, operating in a Toyota Highlander, registration number, AS 234 ASB, attempted to attack a yet to identified commercial vehicle, but there was alert from control/locals.”
He said police and anti-cult and vigilance groups in the area gave the bandits a hot pursuit “before they could rob the passengers and recovered the vehicle. Two of the robbers were arrested with injuries, the Divisional Police Officers in Ozoro and Oleh gave good backing, though, a police vehicle was hit during the crossfire.”
