President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday inaugurated the Nigeria Football House within the premises of the National Stadium, Abuja, with a promise that his administration would continue to put in efforts aimed at improving football and the entire sports sector.
Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, expressed the belief that the multi-million naira building named Sunday Dankaro House would go a long way in encouraging footballers and translating into sparkling performance in the sector.
He said, “The significance of this project reaches far beyond the physical structure for football and other sporting activities as Nigerians.
“I, therefore, hope that this project will serve as a catalyst for better football administration and greater achievements in football. I would like to assure you that this administration is committed to the development of our youths through sports.”
The President commended the members of the Presidential Task Force on FIFA 2010 World Cup, which is responsible for the erection of the edifice.
The PTF was set up by late President Umar Yar’Adua, in 2009.
The task force has Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as the Chairman, Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi as Vice Chairman, while Chief Patrick Ekeji serves as its secretary.
Other members include Alhaji Aminu Maigari, Chief Segun Odegbami, Mr. John Mastoroudes, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, Mr. Austin Okocha, Col. Abdulmumini Aminu (rtd), Mr. John Fashanu and Ambassador Buba Ahmed.
Amaechi’s deputy, Tele Ikuru, represented him at the inauguration.
