VP’s wife, Tambuwal sue for peace

JULY 21, 2013

Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal
Wife of the Vice-President, Amina Namadi-Sambo; Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and the Majority Leader, Mrs. Mulikat Akande on Saturday prayed for peace and security in the country.
They spoke at the Special Ramadan Lecture organised by Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society of Nigeria, Abuja branch with the theme “Religion in Nigeria Project: Myth, Realities, Challenges and Prospects.”
They expressed concerns about religious conflicts rocking the country.
Namadi-Sambo urged Muslims to restrain themselves from anger, gossip, backbiting and exercising personal discipline.
She said, “Muslims are encouraged to do good deeds such as feeding the people and sharing with loved ones. Ramadan is a month of peace and love in which individuals are encouraged to forgive one another and renew both human and spiritual relationships.
“Whereas, religion ought to set the pace for the best moral behaviour and high ethical standard, it is very disturbing that the impact of religious beliefs and practices are yet to make the desired positive effects in our life both as individuals and as a nation.
“I therefore call all Nigerians to allow the dictates of their faiths to guide and propel them towards contributing to the developing of our nation and assisting in the transformation agenda of Mr. President so that the social ills of corruption, insecurity, religious intolerance and other social vices will be eradicated in our country.
In his remarks, Tambuwal said the theme was very apt and timely “with the situation we have in Nigeria today where quite a few Muslims are still grappling with the understanding of the real teachings of Islam is quite worrisome indeed.”
According Mulikat, Nigeria needs peace and people must always pray fervently for peace.
NASFAT Missioner, Sharafudeen Aliagan, who prayed for restoration of peace in the nation said, “As Muslims, we have to understand that religion of Islam is not by coercion. We have been created by God to live together. Allah has his own reason for putting us together. So therefore we have to live together in peace.”
