‘Amaechi still in PDP’

JULY 21, 2013

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi
A faction of the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party has said contrary to claims in some quarters, Governor Rotimi Amaechi is still in the PDP.
The Felix Obuah-led PDP had on Friday bade Amaechi goodbye from the PDP, following the recent solidarity visit of some governors from the North and those from opposition to him (Amaechi).
But a statement signed by the factional state Publicity Secretary, Mr. George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, described the utterances of the state Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Ibibia Walter, as ‘unfortunate.’
Walter had alleged that Amaechi was dishing out state funds to governors from others states for political gains.
Ukwuoma-Nwogba said Walter was among those destroying the ruling party with their unguarded utterances, maintaining that Amaechi had not left the PDP.
“The unfortunate utterances of Mr. lbibia Walter is unbecoming of a true party man. The likes of lbibia Walter are those destroying Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State through their unguarded utterances.
“However, for the interest of the general public and the faithful, our Governor, Chibuike Amaechi who is Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum remains not only in PDP, but is also the leader in the state.
“Let Walter lbibia accept the fact that Governor Amaechi remains key to the continued electoral victory of the PDP in Rivers state. The governor remains committed to his membership of the PDP and as Chairman of NGF can play host to members of that forum either in Minna, Okrika or Abuja.”
Ukwuoma-Nwogba argued that Walter should seek an avenue to secure the confidence of the governor if he (Walter) meant well for the party.
He said it was also wrong for Walter to have addressed the renowned playwright, Prof. Wole Soyinka, without respect.
