The presidency is yet to confirm the incident.
Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the first lady, Patience Jonathan, has been reported dead.
The deceased reportedly died from a vehicle accident along Elele Road in Rivers State.
The presidency is yet to confirm the incident while the first lady and her spokesperson are currently in Geneva, Switzerland.
It is not clear if Mrs. Iwari-Oba is the biological mother of the first lady as there are reports that the first lady’s biological mother died when the former was a kid; while Mrs. Iwari-Oba was her adopted mother.
The deceased, from Okirika area of Rivers same as the first lady, was reportedly travelling to Bayelsa before the accident.
An aide to Evans Bipi, a Rivers State lawmaker and close ally to Mrs. Jonathan, confirmed the accident to PUNCH Newspapers.
“Yes! She was involved in an accident and she died. Her body has been taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the mortuary,” Fred Itobo told PUNCH.
