Ethiopians, Kenyans top list of invited athletes for Okpekpe Road Race

Ethiopia and Kenya are leading on the list of the invited and confirmed athletes for the maiden Okpekpe 10km International Road Race in Edo.
The list, released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) on Friday in Lagos showed that Ethiopia and Kenya have five athletes each and Uganda one.
The race, for which over 2,000 athletes have registered, is scheduled for May 4 in the Etsako-East Local Government Area of Edo.
The names on the list released by the AFN Technical Director, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, are Deriba Merga of Ethiopia who won the 2011 RAK Half Marathon in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
Merga also took first position at the 2011 Yangzhou Jianazhen Half Marathon in China.
His compatriot, Tilahum Regassan, who won the 2013 Rotterdam Marathon, Rotterdam and Abere Chane Lema who’s personal best is 27.47sec in Japan, were also invited.
The females from Ethiopia are Sofia Shemsu, who came first at the 2013 Hannut Lotto X-C Hannut BEL IAAF Permit and Salam Abere Alebachew, whose personal best is 33.08 secs.
From Kenya are Moses Masai, who clinched the fourth position at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games and Yusuf Biwott, who came second at the 21st April 2013 Half Marathon.
Others are: Fredrick Kipchumba Ngeny, who was first at the 2012 Dusseidorf 10km Race and the females are: Betty Chepleting and Georgina Rono.
The Ugandan is Timothy Toroitich, who emerged sixth at the 2013 World Cross Country Championships.
