Hon. Obukowho Joseph Oshevire, member representing the people of Ethiope East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Asaba has sent a passionate letter of Appeal to the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan for an extension by three (3) months for the commencement of the ban on Okada in Ethiope East LGA by the state government.
The lawmaker in the letter dated 17th April, 2013 was received by the Governor on the 18th April, 2013, duly signed with inscription “Original copy received.”
Oshevire in the letter noted that he was compelled to make the appeal in writing, when all attempts to see the Governor one on one proved abortive for good three days.
His words according to the letter “I am constrained, your Excellency to appeal to you in writing, having made futile attempts to see you in the last three days.
“To appeal to you to extend by three (3) months the commencement of the ban on Okada extended to other areas of Ethiope East Local Government.
“This appeal, your Excellency has become necessary in order to avert the untold hardship the people in these highly rural communities will face with this immediate ban.
“Sir, I am not unmindful of your gracious gift of twenty (20) tricycles (keke), and two (2) fifty-seater buses to the University, and another thirty (30) tricycles (keke) and buses to be managed by the Local Government Council to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the Local Government for which we are eternally grateful.
“However sir, I do know that this kind gesture notwithstanding, students, farmers, civil servants, and ordinary people in the local government will suffer terribly.
“Due to insufficient transportation, if sufficient time is not given to stakeholders to plan for alternative means of transportation as was extended to Asaba, Uvwie, and Warri before the ban became effective in those areas, more so, when this appear to be a total ban restriction as is the case of that of Asaba, Uvwie, and Warri.”
Oshevire appealed to the people of Ethiope East not to take laws into their hands, saying that their interest is uppermost.
