How Day Old Baby Was Sold For N150,000
Two women, aged 62 and 54 years are being quizzed by men of the Kaduna State police command for allegedly buying and selling a day old baby girl for N150, 000.
The women, Patience Kayode, 62, and Ogochukwu Ikenne, 54, were arrested by the police four days after they finalised the deal.
our reporter gathered that Mrs. Ikenne, a teacher left her country home in Delta State to buy the baby in Samaru, Zaria for her son who she claimed had been married for 20 years without a child.
Sources said Mrs. Kayode, a trained nurse, owns a clinic in Samaru where babies are “manufactured and sold to members of the public.”
The nurse allegedly called her customer (Ogochukwu) on phone to come to Zaria to buy the baby whose mother had abandoned at the clinic after delivery
But four days after the deal was sealed, Mrs. Ogochukwu left Zaria with the baby for Kaduna and straight to the popular Television Garage to buy a bus ticket for a night journey to Delta.
Luck ran out of her when she could not breastfeed the weeping baby. The scenario attracted onlookers and policemen around the garage, who allegedly questioned the paternity of the baby, but she could not provide useful answers.
It was upon her arrest that Mrs. Ogochukwu revealed the deal. According to sources, “The nurse confessed to the crime and said she only mediated in the negotiation between the mother of the baby and Mrs. Ogochukwu whom she had called to come and buy.
“The mother of the baby had feared that she did not know the biological father of the baby and she wanted to sell it to anybody who could take care of her.
