Bailed ``Fake’’Medical Doctor Faces Fraud, Impersonation Charges

A 35-year-old man, Daramola Iyiola, who impersonated a medical doctor, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Iyiola, who lives at Amukoko area of Lagos State, is facing a three-count charge of fraud and false representation.
A Principal State Counsel, Mr Tunde Sunmonu, told the court that the accused used a fake certificate to practice as a medical doctor at The Lord's Chosen Hospital, Ijesha, Lagos.
He said the accused was still standing trial on a similar offence at another magistrates’ court.
According to Sunmonu, the accused forged notification of registration as a medical doctor purportedly issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
He also said that the accused allegedly used a certificate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, to secure employment as a doctor.
Sunmonu said the offences, which were committed on Jan. 21, contravened Sections 364 and 378 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The Counsel to the accused, Mr Olarewaju Akinbo, applied for bail in liberal terms, citing Section 115, of Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of Lagos State 2011.
He argued that the offence was bailable, noting that an accused was presumed innocent until convicted.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Okunuga, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be a Grade Level 16 officer with three years tax clearance.
The case was adjourned to March 20, for further hearing. (NAN)
