Northern govs meet, Yuguda may shun meeting

Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda
Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda may not attend the meeting of the Northern Governors’ Forum on Thursday (today), The Punch has gathered.
This development emerged following the absence of the Bauchi Secretary to the State Government from Wednesday’s meeting of all the SSGs in the North.
Only Bauchi State out of the 19 state governments in the North shunned the meeting held at the Gen. Hassan Katsina House, Kaduna on Wednesday.
The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Mr. Saidu Idris, who chaired the SSGs meeting, said the gathering was to prepare the ground for today’s NGF session.
He, however, noted that the Wednesday meeting deliberated on issues affecting the North and the nation’s socio-political and economic growth.
He added, “It is a normal meeting. It is not a product of any emergency. It is a product of the usual rubbing of minds and trying to understand each other’s problems so that we can as well, be a party to the success of every state in the North, and in turn make that possible across the country.
“One of the agenda of the meeting is to look into the report of the committee constituted by our principals on peace, healing and reconciliation in the North. As you are all aware, the committee had submitted its report and its formal presentation to the governors would be tomorrow (today).”
Other issues, he said, would border on the New Nigerian Newspapers and the Northern Nigeria Development Company.
Meanwhile, a source told our correspondent that the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu might step down at the meeting on Thursday (today).
“His tenure has ended since. It is not a matter of removing him. He has completed his tenure,” the source added.
