Mr. Aliyu said the governors would resolve their problems.
Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger and the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum said on Wednesday that Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers was duly elected as Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Mr. Aliyu made the statement at the installation of his Deputy, Ahmed Ibeto, as Wali Raya Kasar Nupe by Estu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, in Bida, Niger.
“No governor betrayed anyone; we were united in electing a chairman. If other people recognised another person as a chairman, we will solve our problem.
”We must recognise Amaechi as Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman,” he said.
The Niger Governor said “35 governors voted, 19 for and 16 for a particular candidate.”
“Those who go around destroying reputation should just bury their hatchet.
”We cannot go to 2015 with faction and disunity, there will be no progress, we must unite and come as a group,” Mr. Aliyu added.
He said Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau emerged as a candidate from the North after the forum discovered that there was “under current issues” between Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State and Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State.
Mr. Aliyu said the North must articulate its position as a state, region and as a people, adding, “Whoever offers us the best, we will go with him, that is politics of democracy.’’
Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, said good leadership and support was necessary for a better society.
The sultan urged leaders to work for the good of the common man and avoid any form of intimidation and harassment.
