Govt To Reactivate Ughelli Modern Market —Emu

As part of its urban renewal drive, Delta State Government says it would reactivate the multi-million naira Ughelli-Ogor Modern Market in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Kingsley Emu, disclosed this when he led members of the Ughelli-Ogor modern market inter-ministerial committee on a sensitization visit to the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Oharisi III and his Ogor counterpart, HRM  Onajite Igere Adjara III (JP) .
Emu who addressed the Ovie of Ughelli and his council of chiefs as well as the executive of Ughelli Main Market Association, stated that the state government was vigorously executing its urban renewal programme aimed at enhancing the socio-economic lives of Deltans, adding that Ughelli North is one of the early beneficiaries of the programme.
His words, “the state government wants to reactivate the elegant multi- million naira Ughelli-Ogor Modern Market by relocating the Ughelli Main Market to the new market which, he said, has 900 stores made up of lock-up and open stores with good sanitary condition, perimeter fencing and other state of the art facilities.
While saying that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan administration would continue to initiate programmes that would be beneficial to all Deltans, the commissioner said that the Ughelli main market would be sealed up by the state government after relocating traders in the market to the Ughelli-Ogor modern market, adding that 350 shop owners that were identified at the market have been fully accommodated in the new market.
Responding, HRM Oharisi III who alleged that the state government was collaborating with the people of Ogor against the Ughelli people said that he was never told that government was going to relocate the Ughelli main market to the Ughelli-Ogor modern market upon its completion.
The commissioner and members of the committee who were accompanied by the transition committee chairman of Ughelli North local government council, Chief Friday Akpoyibo, were at the palace of the Ovie of Ogor Kingdom where the monarch stressed the need for full co-operation among the traders, the people of Ughelli and those of Ogor to enable the new market flourish.
He lamented that market of such magnitude was left for reptiles, rodents and other animals, adding that the people of Ogor kingdom would be highly delighted if the market is reactivated as quickly as possible.
