We’re not at war with Amaechi – Rivers PDP
MAY 2, 2013
THE Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State chapter, has said it is not at war with the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
The state Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Felix Obuah, who said the party was not involved in any plot to impeach the state governor, said the new executive of the party would support Amaechi to manage the resources of the state prudently.
Obuah, who spoke with journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, stated that there was no disagreement between the party and the governor, adding that the state PDP could only disagree with him if he (Amaechi) failed to deliver on his election promises.
The governor, according to him, is the leader of the people, including all political parties in the state, while he (Obuah) remains the leader of the state PDP.
Obuah explained that members of the party exco and himself had planned to visit Amaechi after their inauguration but had to shelve the idea when the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, said the state government would not recognise him as the leader of the party.
He said the party would soon invite Ikuru to explain why he (Ikuru) said the state government would disobey a court order by not recognising the new executive of the party.
He said, “We did not disagree with him (Amaechi). We can only disagree with the governor if he falls short of his election promises. We only want him to be transparent in his style of leadership. The party is going to support the governor to ensure that the resources of the state go round.
“Ninety-nine per cent of the people of the state are in support of us (state PDP executive). Only beneficiaries (state government officials) are talking in order to defend their positions.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria Labour Congress, Rivers State chapter, has called on politicians to put an end to the political crisis affecting the state.
State Chairman of NLC, Chief Chris Oruge, who made this call on Wednesday, said politics was all about loyalty and not a do-or-die affair.
Speaking during the 2013 May Day celebration in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Oruge cautioned that labour unions in the state were not ready to keep silent and allow a group of persons to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
