Lagos ACN faults PDP leadership on NGF Election

Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe
The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria says the decision by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party not to honour the outcome of the Nigeria Governors Forum’s election is a shame and a national embarrassment.
The party said the commitment to democracy which PDP had been touting had been proved to be a ruse by its action and that of its allies.
In a statement by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party said PDP was trying to abort a baby after birth because of a selfish and ulterior political motive.
The party said, “Before the whole world, PDP employed every trick to corner the NGF for its selfish motives and after much manipulation; the governors asserted their independence and rejected the PDP hemlock.”
ACN said the PDP leadership, through some of its governors, did not take the rejection in their stride, but had been “jumping from one laughable option to the another” to factionalise the NGF.
It added, “With this latest shameful showing on the NGF election, the PDP is serving notice that it has no belief in democracy except one where it writes electoral results and goes on to manipulate the judiciary to assent to such dubious results as we have been experiencing since 1999.
“If the PDP cannot accept a clear result of an election by 36 governors, where then is the pretension to commitment to democracy which the PDP employs to continue manipulating the electoral system in Nigeria?
“All these show that PDP and its allies do not believe in democracy and will do everything to scuttle the system if they fail in an election, as in the present case.”
The party said it would recognise Governor Chibuike Amaechi as the authentic Chairman the election of the NGF produced.
“We warn the PDP to accept defeat in good faith and stop further efforts to denigrate the NGF for the mere fact that its selfish wishes were not met this time around,” ACN said
