Stop employing violence to change leaders – Mimiko
MAY 1, 2013
Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Tuesday warned artisans in Ondo State against adopting violence when changing the leadership of their various unions and associations.
Mimiko gave the warning in Akure during the inauguration of an Ultra Modern Mechanic Village and Auto Parts Market built in the state capital by his administration.
He said his government would not condone any form of violence during change of leadership of any association or group in the state.
He said, “Anyone found culpable of such act would not be spared because we will not tolerate change of leadership through violence. Whoever tries it would be severely punished by the law.”
The governor said his administration executed the projects in line with his government’s urban renewal agenda and that the project was part of the government’s 12-point agenda of Urban Renewal Development in the state.
He noted the importance of artisans in the economic growth of the state and implored them to ensure proper utilisation of the facilities at the mechanic village, stressing that his plan was to ensure that such gesture was extended to all the cities in the state.
He said, “If this is well taken care of, we are going to do more of this in other cities in the state
“We plan to do more than the one in Akure to make things easier for all of us; artisans are important factors in the stimulation of economic activities in the state.”
The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Physical and Urban Development Planning, Mr. Biodun Alabi, said the government, as part of its Caring Heart programme, had a positive attitude towards the government’s urban renewal development.
Ondo State Chairman of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, Mr. Raji Raheem, commended the governor for the project which he described as “first of its kind in Nigeria” and urged other governors to emulate the gesture.
Raheem promised that the facilities would be well maintained.
