Olayinka: Ekiti to build cancer centre

Ekiti deputy Governor, Mrs Fumilayo Olayinka
In fulfillment of the pledge by the Ekiti State Government to immortalise the late deputy governor of the state, Mrs. Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka, who died on April 6, the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has named one of the administration’s legacy projects, the ultra-modern Civic Centre, currently under construction, after her.
The Civic Centre, being built on a large expanse of land near the Government House complex and billed for completion by the end of the year, would be known as Funmilayo Olayinka Civic Centre. The governor also announced the naming of the newly constructed Atikankan- Baptist Church Road in Ado-Ekiti as Funmilayo Olayinka Drive.
Also, a Cancer Diagnostic Centre, Funmi Olayinka Cancer Diagnostic Centre, would be built in memory of the departed deputy governor at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH). The cancer diagnostic centre, which would be built by the state government in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF), will focus on early detection and treatment of the dreaded disease.
The centre will commence initial operation in the coming months with the commissioning of a mammogram at the centre aimed at detection and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
