Security Guard Convicted For Abducting A Minor

An Abuja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday convicted a security guard, David Usman, for abducting a minor.
Usman, 29, of Efab Estate, was said to have committed the offence contrary to the provisions of Section 273 of the Panel Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Simon Emmanuel, told the court that the case was reported to the Life Camp police station on Jan. 31.
According to him, the case was reported by one Christiana Haruna, of plot 311, Cadastral Zone, Life Camp, Abuja.
The prosecutor said ``after promising to secure house-keeping jobs for her, Usman harboured the minor(name withheld), introduced to him by another minor, in his house.
He added that Usman kept the minor in his house without the consent of her guardian.
Usman pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mohammed Zubairu, in his ruling, convicted Usman and orderedc his remand in prison pending his sentence.
``Having failed to show any cogent reason why you should not be convicted, I hereby convict you accordingly for the offence,’’ Zubairu said.
Zubairu, however, adjourned the sentence till Feb. 11.(NAN)
