Army Corporal Shoots Police Inspector As Protests Trail STF House To House Search
Tension enveloped Tunkus in Mikang local government council of Plateau State, yesterday, as a Police Inspector was shot dead by an Army Corporal. This was just as women of Latya community around DogoNahawa junction protested the military search for arms in their area an exercise the STF planned in response to alleged killing of a Fulani man around the area.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent said that at about 12. 30pm, yesterday, an argument broke out between the deceased and the Army Corporal which was settled by other military personnel in the area.
The source further said that the Army corporal, not satisfied with the pleas from his colleagues went ahead to shot the police man.
He said, “We were so shocked when 30 minutes later we heard the sound of gunshots and when we got to the scene we discovered that the policeman was shot by the Army corporal.
He further gave the name of the dead police man as inspector Dou.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP John Omuogbo said an argument ensued between the duo which led to the killing.
He said the Corporal has been arrested and would be arraigned after investigations had been completed
DSP Omuogbo called on people of the area to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands.
The women said that they could not understand why the search now when no such search was hardly carried out in reaction to many Beroms killed by the Fulani.
The spokeswoman Ngo Vou told our reporter on phone that it was traumatic to Dogo-Nahauwa residents to see such activity in their community three years after the March 7, 2010 horror in their village.
