There were a number of road accidents in Jos, the Plateau State capital, and its environs on Thursday as Muslims in Nigeria marked the end of Ramadan fast, Eid el Fitr.
An overloaded tricycle carrying full passengers, including a two year old male child was involved in an accident along Murtala Mohammed Way, at the “U” turn before water board service office, injuring all passengers.
All the victims, including the driver, were rushed to a nearby clinic for immediate medical attentions.
According to a witness at the scene of the incident, the accident was due to reckless driving by the rider of the tricycle. The tricycle was completely damaged, he said.
The tricycles are meant to convey three passengers and a driver, but most tricycles often carry more than five persons.
Another tricycle accident occurred near the NNPC Mega station along Dogon Kerfe, injuring its occupants.
The accident created heavy traffic between state Secretariat junction and Dogon Kerfe, Jos South Local Government Area. It took the intervention of security men and officials of the Road Safety to control the traffic.
The usual stop and search of vehicles and persons was intensified at most check-points, with armed security men placed on alert.
