Anichebe keen to retain Everton place

JULY 16, 2013

Victor Anichebe admits he must score goals regularly to keep his place at  Everton with the arrival of Arouna Kone  from Wigan and Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona.
The powerful striker scored a career best total of eight goals last term, as he managed to keep his previously persistent injury problems at bay.
“It’s going to be interesting, the way I finished last season needs to be the minimum this year. I need to build on the good latter stage of the season that I had,” Liverpool Echo quoted the 25-year-old as saying.
“I need to try to play as many games as possible, I need to try to get more goals this year and just stay fit, stay confident like I was last year and hopefully if I can do that it will be a good season.”
Anichebe is excited about making a start on those aims during Everton’s busy pre-season schedule, which begins with a game against Austria Vienna on Sunday, before some domestic fixtures which are followed by a bumper US tour.
“We’ve got some good games, we seem to always go away to Austria,” added Anichebe. “It’s good to get away sometimes. You go away and you concentrate on what you have to do.
“It will be nice to go back to America – we’ve got hard games over there. Playing against really good teams we can test ourselves and we can come into the season trying to be as high as possible.
“It will be good for everyone to test themselves against those kind of teams.”
