Ubah’s wedding: Obi denies directive to query monarchs

Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi
Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, on Thursday denied ever being directed by Governor Peter Obi to query  traditional rulers that attended a recent wedding in Lagos.
The Obi, in a statement by his Palace Secretary, Nwolisa Agusiobo, also denied that he attended the wedding.
“His Majesty categorically declares that he was neither directed by the governor, nor by the state government, to query, intimidate, or threaten to sanction any traditional ruler for attending a wedding in Lagos recently as alleged by a national daily  and he did not query, intimidate, or threaten to sanction any traditional ruler on any occasion.”
It was reported that, the Anambra State Government had harassed some monarchs for attending the wedding of the sister of Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, a political opponent of Governor Obi.
Achebe however admitted that the issue of the visit to Lagos was discussed at their second annual Anambra State Traditional Rulers seminar at the instance of a fellow traditional ruler but they unanimously resolved it in three points.
“That there was nothing wrong with a traditional ruler accepting a personal invitation from anyone to a wedding ceremony,” he said.
