Policewoman, bus conductor accuse each other of abduction

A female police corporal, identified simply as Adenike, and a bus conductor, Adekunle Odusanya, are accusing each other of kidnapping.
While the corporal said Adekunle and the bus driver, Sunday Odusanya, kidnapped her, the driver and the bus conductor, who were taken to Alakuko Police Division, said Adenike abducted and detained them unlawfully at the station.
PUNCH Metro learnt that trouble started after Adenike boarded the commercial bus at Kola bus stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway last Friday.
Adekunle said the driver had stopped at Kola to discharge passengers when Adenike entered the bus.
He said, “Around 10am on Friday, we were coming from Oshodi and were approaching Sango Ota. On getting to Kola bus stop, we stopped to discharge passengers when a policewoman boarded without saying a word.
“We did not question her because police personnel never pay transport fare. On getting to Joju Bus Stop, after dropping off all our passengers, we asked the policewoman where she was going but she replied us by saying ‘Did you not know that I arrested you?’
“I was surprised since she boarded our bus like any other passenger without telling us that we committed any offence.”
He said he and the driver took Adenike back to the station where policemen took her side and accused them of abduction.
He said the bus driver, who is his younger brother, was locked up for a few hours and was made to pay N4,000 before his release.
He said, “After paying the money, the police said the N4,000 was for my brother’s bail and I would need to pay another sum of money to secure the release of the impounded vehicle.
“They told me that if I did not make the money available, they would charge us for kidnapping.”
He asked the police authorities to intervene adding that he had no more money to give them.
When contacted on the telephone, Adenike said she was abducted by the two brothers.
She said she had told them to come and collect their bus.
She said, “I was in my traffic police uniform when I arrested them for obstructing traffic. Instead of them to stop, they abducted me. They are only trying to whip up sympathy because they know they were wrong.
“I have told them to come and collect their bus but they have refused to come. Do they want me to bring the bus to their house?”
