Man arraigned for impersonating govt official

A 51-year-old man, Mr. Adewale Adekunle, had been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Demi-Ajayi of Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly impersonating a Lagos State Government official.
He was arraigned on eight counts, including conspiracy and forgery.
The suspect, who resides at No.30 Irepodun Street, Ijoko, Ogun State, and others at large were accused of carrying out the alleged offence on April 29 at Lagos State Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos.
The police prosecutor, ASP Barth Nwaokoye, said the suspect already had pending bench warrants in several courts and was dismissed from the state’s Civil Service in 2012. But according to Nwaokoye, Adekunle had deceitfully presented himself in court as the Principal Internal Auditor, Lagos State Ministry of Establishment, on the day of the alleged crime.
Nwaokoye said, “Adekunle forged a Corporate Affairs Commission certificate, Lagos State Ministry of Establishment letterhead and letter of introduction and promotion of the ministry.”
He said Adekunle falsified the documents and his identity card to the court in order to secure the bail of one Stanley Nwokeukwu.
The prosecution argued that the suspect should be remanded in custody until the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice.
He said the offence contravenes sections 270, 363, 409, Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
Adekunle pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Demi-Ajayi granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case until June 19.
