Dokubo-Asari will soon face reality —CPC

Dokubo-Asari
The Congress for Progressive Change has asked Nigerians not to fret over comments made by a former militant leader, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, that there will be no peace if President Goodluck Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015.
The party said the former militant leader was probably speaking like that because of the “crumbs he is enjoying from the present government.”
Dokubo-Asari, who spoke with reporters in Abuja on Friday, said the peace in the Niger Delta at present was because Jonathan is President and that chaos would return if he is denied re-election.
He had said, “The day Goodluck is no longer the President, all of us, who are on sabbatical, will come back.
“There will be no peace not only in the Niger Delta but everywhere. If they say it is an empty boast, let them wait and see.”
Dokubo-Asari is a former leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, which led arms an struggle against the Federal Government in the past.
But the CPC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said the former Niger Delta warlord would “adjust” when the time comes.
Fashakin, in a test message to our correspondent on Monday, said it was easy for anyone to speak the way the former militant spoke when his stomach was full.
He said, “He will adjust the statement when that time comes. It is very easy for anyone to say anything when his stomach is full.
“This bloke said that to protect the immense benefits flowing his way by reason of the proximate positioning with the ‘powers that be’ (at the expense of the people). When a truly people-oriented regime comes into power, he will adjust to the reality!
“Let no man’s heart fail on account of this. Nigeria belongs to all of us and its well-being is our collective responsibility.”
He appealed to the President to caution his aides and those close to him, adding that some of their actions and statements had confirmed the fears in some quarters that “President Jonathan is more of a regional leader than a national leader.”
Fashakin said the attitude of the President and those surrounding him had vindicated the position of his party, which he said, had portrayed him as a sectional leader in the past.
