Buhari’s presidential ambition not ‘do or die’ —CPC

buhariCHAIRMAN of Contact and Mobilisation Group of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Senator Solomon Ewuga, has said the defacto leader, General Muhammadu Buhari, was not desperate to be the standard-bearer of the proposed mega party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2015 presidential race.
Ewuga, who led members of his committee to a meeting with leaders of the party from the South-West in Ibadan, on Monday, said all the promoters of the mega party had resolved to place national interest above individual ambitions, in the quest to win the 2015 polls.
He explained that the presence of the former leader at the first maiden meeting of the mobilisation team did not only lead to a successful session, but an assurance that all the leaders were determined to make all necessary sacrifice to guarantee victory at the polls.
Ewuga said all stakeholders in the mega party would decide who picked the presidential ticket of the party and rally support for him before the election.
“We will take this nation from the conservatives. This time, special people will remove this nation from the grip of the conservatives. Our convention will come up on May 9 this year, where far reaching decisions would be made,” he said.
The CPC chieftain promised that all contenders for the ticket would go through normal primary, emphasising that there would be no room for the imposition of candidates.
On the controversy trailing the APC acronym, the senator said it was a non-issue, as the stakeholders were aware of the step to take at any stage of the ongoing process to midwife the mega party.
While assuring that the CPC was being put in good stead ahead of the merger, he urged the media to guide against false reports that could jeopardise the success of the merger.
Meanwhile, the CPC governorship candidate in Oyo State during the 2011 election, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has asked the progressives to forge a common platform towards.
