2013 Hajj: FCT Muslim pilgrims’ board commences collection of fare deposits

The FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board is to commence the collection of Hajj fare deposit for 2013 from intending pilgrims from Monday, May 6.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu, the board’s Public Relations Officer.
The statement said that intending pilgrims in FCT, who wanted to perform this year’s hajj, should pay a minimum deposit of N500,000 to book a seat before the announcement of the actual fare by the Federal Government
It added that prospective pilgrims could pay the deposit via a bank draft at the board’s area offices in each of the six area councils of the FCT.
It, however, warned that the board would no longer register any intending pilgrim by proxy.
The statement stressed that intending female pilgrims must present their ``Muharam’’ (male guide), who would travel with them, at the point of registration.
It said that all intending pilgrims must present their e-passport before their draft could be accepted at the registration points.
Meanwhile, the board has introduced some measures to ensure the effectiveness of the pilgrimage, while safeguarding prospective pilgrims against fraud in this year's hajj exercise.
The statement said that the measures were aimed at ensuring that intending pilgrims from FCT were able to get the best service delivery in hajj operations.
In the meantime, the Acting Director of the board, Hajiya Fatima Gumi, has charged the board’s area council officers to carry out their duties diligently, while refraining from abuse of office.
Gumi gave the warning at a meeting with the pilgrims' area officers in preparation for the commencement of the hajj exercise.
She disclosed that the FCT Minister of State, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, had given the board appreciable political and moral support, adding, therefore, that she would not condone any act of indiscipline among the staff.
