We’re Planning Robust Youth Empowerment Scheme – Al-Makura
Governor Umar Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has said that more than fifty thousand youths from all the thirteen local governments and development areas of the state would be engaged under his administration’s youth empowerment programme.
This was disclosed in Abuja by his senior special assistant on media and press affairs, Alhaji Sani Musa Mairiga, while speaking with newsmen.
The media aide said Al-makura’s administration attached great importance to matters affecting the youths and this was the reason why since its inception, it has taken various steps to address youth concern, most especially as it affects their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
Mairiga said the youths would be employed in various fields as environmental health officers, vigilante officers to guard government installations and property as while as traffic warders to checkmate traffic gridlock in some major towns in the state especially the ever busy Maraban-Gurku-Abuja axis. He opined that this would make the youths more productive.
According to Mairiga: “Issues concerning the well-being of our youths have been adequately articulated by Al-makura’s administration, as this was reflected on the appointments so far made by this administration, because more than seventy percent of the political appointment went to the youths,” explaining that “this is a deliberate effort by Al-makura to involve youths in governance and decision making process, which is quite commendable.”
The SSA media said this would boost government capacity to effectively address and deal with the rising rate of unemployment among the youths, and called on the private sectors, NGOs and business communities to also play critical role in the empowerment of youths, to achieve a desired standard of behaviour.
