Man, 19, arraigned for causing death of woman, 70

A man, Samsudeen Ahmed, 19, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for knocking down and causing the death of one Monilola Adeniji, 70, while riding a motorcycle. Ahmed was arraigned on a two-count charge of reckless driving and causing death.
The prosecutor, Inspector Adewale Amos, told the court that the accused rode a motorcycle with registration number BDJ 424QA in a dangerous and reckless manner on a public highway having no regard to other road users.
Amos said the manner of driving resulted in the death of Adeniji who was knocked down by the motorcycle. He said the incident happened on January 8, at about 6:45 p.m. along Odeon Cinema, in the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.
Amos said the offences contravened Section 18 of the RTA Code Cap. 115, Vol.6 Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Fatimoh Badrudeen granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
