Katsina Releases N300m Counterpart Fund For Water Supply
Katsina state government has released N300million as counterpart funds for the construction of 354 boreholes in six local government areas in the state. The Commissioner for Water Resources, Jamilu Danmusa has said.
Speaking during the presentation of motorcycles and hand pump maintenance equipment to 10 selected communities in Dutsinma Local Government Area, Danmusa said the gesture was meant to express the administration’s commitment to addressing water scarcity.
He said “We are poised to ensuring availability of good potable drinking water to the people mindful of the fact that water is life hence government’s investment in the water sector”.
He disclosed that work on seven semi-urban water schemes across the state had commenced noting that efforts are being made to identify other locations.
Commending the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and an NGO-Tulsi Chanrai Foundation- for providing equipments for the rehabilitation of broken down hand pumps, the commissioner appealed to the beneficiaries to use it properly.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Alhaji Abubakar Gege, said the training and provision of hand pump maintenance tools to the beneficiaries were in line with his agency’s concept of ensuring the sustainability of facilities provided.
The representative of Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Alhaji Suleiman Musa said the NGO rehabilitated 10 boreholes in Dutsinma area just as it conducted training for beneficiaries and provided needed implements to ensure routine hand pump monitoring and repairs.
