A Shomolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Tuesday sentenced a surety, Ayoade Adesina, to two years imprisonment for failing to produce an accused in court.
The Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, however, gave the surety an option of N1 million fine.
The surety was arraigned on January 18 after he failed to produce a businesswoman, Kehinde Fadipe, in court five consecutive times.
The prosecutor, Akinlabi Adegoke, had told the court that Mr. Adesina, a resident of No. 1, Temidire Lane, Onipanu, on the Ikorodu Road, Lagos, later absconded.
He noted that Mr. Fadipe was arraigned on February 11, 2011 over alleged N8 million fraud.
He said that the businesswoman defrauded three traders, but pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N1 million with three sureties, including Mr. Adesina.
He said that the surety breached Section 132 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
