Suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, may ignore the advice of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, asking him to denounce the New PDP before he could reclaim his office.
Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun State, was reinstated by the Court of Appeal after he was removed by an Abuja Federal High Court B, but a few days after the judgment, the National Working Committee of the party announced his suspension from the party.
Apart from him, the party also suspended a former Acting National Chairman of the party, Abubakar Baraje; a former National deputy chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja and PDP former National Vice-Chairman, North West, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure.
The four men have been summoned to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee headed by Dr. Umaru Dikko, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Oyinlola however claimed that he was the target of the suspension and had, with others, filed a case at an Abuja high court contesting the suspension.
Though the Ogun State chapter of the party, which filed the case that made an Abuja Federal High Court to sack Oyinlola before his reinstatement by the Court of Appeal has taken the case to the Supreme Court, Anenih has sent a letter to Oyinlola asking him to denounce the New PDP.
In the private memo, the former Minister of Works said the case could be looked into by the elders of the party, but said Oyinlola had to openly castigate the New PDP.
Apart from that, he was also claimed to have told the former military administrator of Lagos State that there was no way the leadership of the party would be happy with him(Oyinlola) when he was busy “hobnobbing with a rebelious group.”
However, a source close to Oyinlola told our correspondent that Anenih’s position was an after thought, adding that it would have been better if the chairman of the BoT had offered to intervene before the Court of Appeal judgment.
The source said, “Anenih’s letter is appreciated by the former governor. But why asking for any condition before the judgment of the Court of Appeal could be implemented?
“Is that how to implement judgment, just because it did not favour the party and some people? Why in the first place, did he not intervene before the appeal court delivered the judgment?
“Though the letter is appreciated and his concern is also appreciated, as one of the key leaders of the party, he ought to have asked the party to obey the court judgment then discussion would follow.”
