Gunmen kill two, burn 200 houses in Shendam, Plateau

Authorities are investigating the attack.
At least two people were killed and about 200 houses burnt in an attack in Kuka Village, Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.‬
‪Confirming the incident to journalists in Jos on Sunday, the media officer of the Special Task Force on Jos crisis, Salisu Mustapha, said that only two people died in the attack.
‪”I can only confirm the death of two people in the attack,” he said. He said no arrest had been made.‬
‪Witnesses said the attackers stormed the area on Saturday at about 5:20 p.m. with sophisticated weapons, shooting and setting houses ablaze.‬
‪One Abdullahi Ragmin who claimed to have witnessed the mayhem said,”The incident occurred on Saturday night. The attackers came from an unknown destination to us, burnt close to 200 houses and shot four persons dead; others sustained injuries.‬
‪”We all ran into the bush while they burnt our houses and shot at people, but 30 minutes later, military reinforcement came.”‬
‪Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to Governor Jonah Jang on Peace Building, Timothy Parlong, while condemning the attack, said government was investigating the attack.
Hundreds of people have been killed in ethno-religious crisis in various parts of Plateau State.
