The NSCDC accused the civil servant and his accomplice of stealing over N5 million worth of construction materials.
A civil servant with the Adamawa State Ministry of Works has been arrested by the Civil Defense Corps for allegedly stealing over N5 million worth of construction materials belonging to the Adamawa State Government. The suspect was paraded alongside his accomplice, as the agency vows to rid the state of vandals.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Sulaiman Baba, told journalists that the roofing materials were vandalized at the Ministry of Works zonal office in Numan, where the principal suspect, a level 13 officer with the Adamawa State Ministry of Works.
“The corps just arrested two suspects with vandalized roofing materials worth about N5 million. The materials were vandalized from the Ministry of Works Zonal office in Numan and the principal suspect is a staff of the ministry,” Mr. Baba said.
Mr. Baba, who expressed the resolve of the Adamawa State command of NSCDC to rid the state of vandals, said the two suspects have been interrogated to ascertain their level of involvement in the crime and would be charged to court immediately.
According to the spokesperson, the law has given the corps the mandate to arrest, detain and prosecute suspects and the command would not relent in discharging its responsibilities.
The corps urged residents to join hands with security agencies to stall the tide of vandalisation of public property by unscrupulous elements in the society.
Commending the people of the state for their support, the spokesman called on the general public to report any suspicious persons or movement to the nearest NSCDC office or any security post.
