Killing Of 12 Policemen: Amnesty Office, Ex-militants Finger Anti-Jonathan Forces
The presidential adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and chairman of the Amnesty Implementation Committee, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, yesterday met with former militant leaders in the South-South states over an alleged plot by anti-Goodluck Jonathan forces to break the ranks of ex-militiamen and cause security breaches in the region ahead of the 2015 elections.
Kuku, who was represented at the meeting by the head of Reintegration Department, Mr. Lawrence Pepple, which also coincided with the official opening of the office of Leadership, Peace, and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI) set up by ex-militant leaders led by Pastor Reuben Wilson, said the anti- Jonathan elements were everywhere, including the fold of ex-militants and the management of some foreign oil companies.
He said though the meeting of the Amnesty Committee and the ex-agitators was to inform them of the pattern being adopted by the organisation to improve their welfare, the worrisome report on the activities of the anti-Jonathan forces had been traced to the recent security setback in the region, including the killing of 12 policemen in Bayelsa State.
Kuku said, “What happened in Bayelsa concerning 12 policemen was a tip of the iceberg. More will happen. People are all out to create a sense of insecurity not only in the north, but in the house of Jonathan to make him not sellable. Jonathan has value and he is better than those we don’t know. They (anti-Jonathan forces) will come to you, please take their money and do not execute the destruction they want you to do”.
Earlier, Pastor Wilson noted that the formation of the group is to serve as a catalyst for sustainable peace in the region.
