‘I Was Offered N45m For Airport Robbery’
This is not the best of time for Toba Adeniyi, a notorious robbery suspect who is currently cooling his feet in the detention of the detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command.
The 32-year-old suspect who admitted to be involved in various robbery operations in recent times, said he was offered a total sum of N45 million on the raid of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos in February 2012 during which a total of 2.5 million US dollars (N600 million) were carted away.
According to the Ibadan, Oyo state-born suspect, he bought two cars and truck from the N45 million received as his own proceed of the loots in the February 2012 raid.
Out of the amount, he claimed he was duped a sum of N10 million by conmen.
Also, in the raid carried out on March 13, 2013 at the same MMIA, Ikeja, he said he collected a sum of N500, 000.
On how he was co-opted into the seven-man gang which raided MMIA on March 13, 2013, he said thus: “It was Asiaju who invited me for the operation. We had been together for long because we used to operate together. He asked me to join him at Agoro Village in Odogbolu, Ogun state. It was when I got there I met others and we were made to take an oath that we would not divulge whatever they were discussing there. We took water oath administered on us by Pastor Ibikunle Olanrewaju John. He is the one sitting five away from me. At that place, we were herded into a waiting Toyota Sienna Bus, marked AKD 791 BD (Lagos) belonging to one Esho. From there, we went straight to the airport where we robbed.
“After the operation, we returned to the Agoro Village in Odogbolu where we shared the loots”.
Also, a supposed man of God who identified himself as Pastor Ibikunle Olanrewaju John, the General Overseer of “Way of Joy Church”, Egbe, Lagos, admitted to be a part of the gang. He claimed he administered water oath on the gang members before the raid on MMIA, Ikeja, but, that he did not partake in it.
After the raid, he claimed he collected a sum of N500, 000 as his own share of the loots.
But police sources hinted that the Pastor is a notorious who was an armourer for a slain notorious robber, one Paul who was killed sometime in February at Ajah, Lagos during an encounter with the detectives attached to the SARS, Lagos State Police Command.
While briefing newsmen at the command headquarters, Ikeja,. Lagos on Tuesday, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Manko said that the gang was responsible for the killing of two armed policemen from Apapa Division and who were on an official assignment to the MMIA.
In a bid to cover their track, it was gathered that the robbers spirited away the slain member.
Following when the matter was assigned to the operatives of the SARS and led by its Commander, Mr. Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police (SP), seven of the robbers identified as Ibikunle Olanrewaju John, Atoba Adeniyi, Ibrahim Adullahi, Kazeem Aderibigbe, Saheed Adekunle, Christian Joshua and Saheed Okunola were arrested at their various hideouts in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Osun states respectively.
