Customs Arrests Passenger With $540,000 At Lagos Airport
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of Nigerian Customs Service, yesterday arrested a passenger with $540,000 at the Lagos Airport, on his way to Dubai, aboard Emirates Airlines.
The passengers according to the public relations officer, of the Nigeria Customs Service, Airport command, Mrs Thelma Williams explained that the passengers identified as Mr Apampa Fatai Adeshina
was arrested for failure to declare the actual amount with him, as well as his inability to convince the relevant government agencies on the source of the currency he was travelling with.
The Customs public relations officer disclosed that the passenger with passport number AO3445111, has been handed over with the foreign currency to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for further interrogation and investigations.
She explained that the passenger travelling to Dubai was accosted at the currency declaration desk of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Lagos International Airport.
Last month, NCS, Murtala Muhammed International Airports, MMIA, Command, arrested a passenger with $1.1 million at MMIA, Lagos on his way to Kenya. This came as the command intercepted over $12.1 million from 14 persons who tried to smuggle money out of the country in contravention of extant regulations in 2012.
