Police Arrest Two Vigilance Members For Armed Robbery

Barely three weeks after the chairman of a vigilance group in Abraka, Delta State, was killed for his involvement in the abduction of a elta State University (DELSU) Staff, two senior members of another vigilance outfit in the area have been arrested for armed robbery.
Addressing newsmen in Abraka, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed the arrest and gave the names of the suspects as James Kigho and Dominion Ereka.
He explained that the hoodlums met their waterloo when they burgled the provision store of a complainant who had earlier turned down their request for guard duties, saying that when a search was carried in their houses, drinks and other assorted provisions they carted away from shops in the area were recovered.
In a related development, two members of a kidnap gang terrorizing Abraka have been gunned down during a gun duel that ensued in the course of effecting their arrest. State police boss, Ikechukwu Aduba, gave their names as Freeborn Okwundu and Monday Ekpeki.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects in their dying confession, revealed other members of the gang. He identified their names as Okotie Obakpororo Onyinye, the armourer, Ejimafuwe Okorigbo, in charge of food and Bomboy Prince, an okada rider.
Aduba said the gang was responsible for the abduction of Josephine Okoduwa, wife of member, Edo State House of Assembly and other series of armed robbery and kidnapping in the state.
Similarly, police have killed a notorious armed robbery gang leader at Umono Street, Abraka.
Aduba said the hoodlums who were heavily armed with guns and battle axe blocked the street and were dispossessing residents of their money and other valuables when police stormed the scene and engaged them in gun battle resulting in the death of the suspect while others escaped.
In the same vein, police also nabbed two members of a gang who had been robbing road users on gun point along the Eku/Sanubi road. The police commissioner said upon a tip off, police arrived the scene and arrested the suspects after a gun duel. Aduba said the suspects later died as result of gunshot injuries.
