Govs have no plan to sack Tukur – Wamakko

PDP National Chairman, Dr Bamanga Tukur
Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko has denied claims that Peoples Democratic party governors are planning to remove the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur.
Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Sunday, Wammako also dismissed the reports that the PDP was divided over whether Tukur should go or not.
He said, “We are more united as a party; the opposition thought that the party was heading for the rocks based on media reports, which did not present the true situation in the PDP. What we are experiencing in the party is what I will describe as democracy in action in which each member has the right of expression and action meant to promote the interest of the party.
“I can tell you that at no point did we sit to decide that we would remove our National Chairman. We as governors never planned any action capable of derailing democracy or creating any form of distraction to the governance of Nigeria and we are not going to do that as democrats.
“Rather, our efforts are geared towards attending to the issues at stake with a view to resolving them amicably with the assistance of President Goodluck Jonathan. The good thing now is that the party is moving on and it would continue to move on, no matter the antics of the opposition.”
The governor commended the efforts of Jonathan and leaders of the party towards the PDP’s plans for victory in the 2015 general elections.
However, Wammako urged members of the party’s National Working Committee to work together for a stronger PDP.
He called for transparency in the activities of the national officials to win the confidence of all members.
Wamakko promised that the PDP governors would continue work in harmony to promote democracy in the country.
