Ekiti commissioners, special advisers reject food as Governor dissolves cabinet

Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday announced the dissolution of the state’s executive council, leaving the about 42 commissioners and special shocked.
Governor Fayemi announced the decision to dissolve the council after their weekly meeting on Wednesday and directed the commissioners and special advisers to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary of the governor, Olayinka Oyebode, said “the governor thanked all the executive members for their support for the government in the last two years.”
Oyebode added in the statement said “the dissolution and the re-constitution that would follow are aimed at revitalising the administration and positioning it for greater performance.”
He quoted Governor Fayemi to have said: “This is the moment of change and transformation in all that we are doing. This is not a statement about an individual not pulling their weight enough.”
Sources at the meeting told the Nigerian Tribune that following the announcement, the shell-shocked commissioners and special advisers could not touch the food normally served them after their weekly meetings.
According to the source, Governor Fayemi had kept the announcement of the dissolution of the cabinet till the close of the meeting and made the declaration as part of his closing remarks.
It said: “Immediately the governor completed all the issues on the agenda, he cleared his throat and announced the dissolution of the cabinet. The commissioners were stunned and could not eat their food while some of them had to leave hurriedly.”
