Amaechi assures Legionnaires of better welfare

Chibuike Amaechi, the Governor of Rivers State has assured the state chapter of the Nigerian legion of better welfare package and improved standard of living. Amaechi gave the assurances at the Emblem Appeal Launch as part of the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Represented by George Feyii, the Secretary to the State Government, the governor pledged continuous partnership with the legion in the state. He urged the citizens and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the emblem launch, noting: ``the State Government will make sure that the welfare of legionnaires in the state is given proper attention.
“This government must do everything possible to ensure that the families of the fallen heroes are not neglected, this will make our serving officers to work gallantly,’’ he said and urged Nigerians to support security measures put in place by government to ensure peaceful co-existence in the state.
“This annual event is held to remind us of the supreme sacrifice of our falling heroes, but I want to appeal to us to support the issue of security in the state. The business of security should not be left in the hands of the State Government alone. Security is a business that all residents and citizens must put efforts together to achieve collectively. You all must give your maximum support,” he said.
The state Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, retired Col. Philemon Chinda, had earlier expressed worry over the welfare and needs of the families of the fallen heroes and wounded veterans. ``We should not forget that our gallant and fallen heroes died so that we may live, what we are doing is to assist the families and dependants of the fallen heroes,” he said.
