Usher has spoken out for the first time since Monday’s incident to thank the men that saved the five-year-old’s life.
‘I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,’ the singer said in a statement. ‘They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.’
His eldest son is currently being treated in the ICU after nearly drowning in a pool accident.
The singer also thanked his ‘Aunt Rena’ and the hospital staff who ‘worked around the clock’ at the Atlanta, Georgia hospital to save his son.
The little boy was rushed to the hospital after his arm got caught in the drain of a pool at the singer’s home around 6pm on Monday. The youngster was said to be playing in the water with Usher’s aunt Rena.
After spying a toy in the drain of the pool, he reportedly dove down to retrieve it but his arm got caught in the process. Seeing him underwater, Rena immediately swam down to rescue the boy but to no avail. After a maid also rushed to the scene and could not help, she screamed for help.
It was then that two men working in the house were said to have rushed out and also dove into the pool, finally freeing the boy’s arm from the drain. Usher Raymond V was then reportedly given CPR and rushed to the hospital.
His famous father was not home at the time of the incident, but as soon as he was notified, rushed to his Atlanta property.
Meanwhile, Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster took to her Twitter on Wednesday to let fans know her son was ‘doing much better’ since the accident.
‘I’m so happy to say that my son is doing much better,’ the stylist wrote to her 149,000 followers. ‘Talking & asking for food. Thank you for your well wishes & prayers.’
