Arthur Eze, Umeh in War of Words over Who Governs Anambra

OCTOBER 28, 2013

Prince Arthur Eze
The oil mogul and philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze  and the National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Uneh Monday engaged in a heated argument over who becomes the next Anambra Governor between Tony Nwoye of PDP and Willie Obiano of APGA.
Prince Arthor Eze insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party Candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye is the next Governor of Anambra no matter whatever challenges.
Prince Eze, speaking at the launch of Awka Catholic diocesan Peter University Achina, Aguata Local Government Area, said nothing would stop Nwoye from becoming governor because he has been the one bringing out those who have governed Anambra State.
He knelt down publicly to demonstrate how the incumbent Governor Mr Peter Obi and Chief Victor Umeh came to his house in London begging him to accept Obi’s candidacy then and how he brought out the money used to register APGA as a political party.
Prince Eze, who spoke in vernacular said: “I brought Nwoye to be Governor of Anambra state and I took him to President Goodluck Jonathan for confirmation. Tony will fight poverty, he will change Anambra State because he came from a neglected part of the state.
“I am not bothered about the denomination. I don’t even know his parents and I have not been to their house before. I met him on the road after somebody spoke about him and I said he is the one that would rebuild Anambra and effect lives in all the communities.”
He assured he would not bring somebody that would be selfish as previous Governors but somebody that will take care of the people of Anambra State.
Prince Eze, whose cousin is running mate to the Labour Party candidate, did not mince words in saying that PDP would take over the governance of the state even as he tongue lashed the APGA government for not tarring the Achina road before now which he assured Tony if voted would do great as governor of the state.
However, although the APGA Governorship candidate, Chief Willie Obiano was at the event, it was the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh who tried to douse the tension by admitting what Eze said; but pleaded with him to see reasons why he brought Obiano as he did to Obi who performed.
Umeh said: “Prince Arthur Eze offered Tony  Nwoye as a candidate of PDP. He didn’t say he must win but it is his wish that he wins. For us this is offering for service. We have brought out our own candidate and we are offering him to the people of Anambra State.
“We have showcased our candidate’s qualities that will make him the candidate to be voted for in this election. All the things said about how to develop Anambra State should be trusted in the hands of some one who is competent enough to deliver those promises. Developmental programmes, good education, health, its not a simple task so think in my own view that our candidate is the best for this job.
“He has the requisite, education, experience and exposure and we have to put all these things together to be able to promise good things ahead from the way we are standing while Obiano remains the best candidate standing on our platform. He has a chance to win the election. We are asking our people to give him chance let him continue the good works Governor Obi has done.”
The APGA National Chairman ended by saying: “I remind Arthur Eze that I brought Obi to him and he performed and now I am bringing out Willie Obiano so he is going to perform. Before I bring some one out or say support this person I must be sure that the person will be able to meet the needs and demands of the office.”
